In the past few years, the LazyPay team has been continually building and shipping new products and features to cater to the needs of a fast-paced, ever-evolving fintech landscape. And many of these were independent launches based on very specific business requirements.

Over time, this created a looming pile of design debt. Legacy tech architecture (a by-product of the M&A) added to the multiple clashing visual styles in the product.

The old design language and its myriad issues

Needless to say — it was about damn time. Time to refresh our design language to create a consistent, harmonious user experience that solidifies credibility and trust in the brand.

Finding a way to elevate our designs

In 2022, we — a small yet determined group of designers — toiled away for months to create a single, unified design framework for LazyPay.

The design team, hard at work

We explored.

Multiple moodboards and visual explorations that were in line with our brand positioning:

“Build new age credit products that help you fast forward to better financial life.”

Moodboards for our brand positioning explorations

We optimised.

By conducting extensive audits of existing screens and collecting all scattered design units into a single place.

So many visual styles, so little time ;)

And we converged.

To three core principles that formed the basis of the new design language.

Welcome to the next level

Thus was born Elevate — a design system that stands for advancement, progress, and improvement.

From colours to content, icons to illustrations, Elevate helped consolidate several independent aspects of the user experience into a unified, cohesive language.

Elevate is our answer to navigating the vast and complex landscape of fintech design.

Elevate, in the real world

In order to get Elevate out in the world in a streamlined manner, we first defined scalable and flexible components. Getting the foundation right was necessary before we started implementing.

These components were transformed into building blocks of code that could be reused across different modules.

Finally, instead of a Big Bang style redesign, we broke down the new experience into modules and aligned their implementation with business priorities.

This streamlined the hand-off process to developers, so we could get things built the right way. In fact, we’re building every feature in the new and improved app on an exclusive VDS framework built using SwiftUI on iOS & JetPack Compose on Android.

A sneak peak at how Elevate is implemented on Android
..and on iOS

You would have started to see elements of Elevate on your LazyPay app already. In the meantime, keep your eyes and ears glued to this space for the upcoming grand reveal of our all-new Homescreen experience.

Next, get to 100% by 2024 — Let’s go!

Here’s to ushering in a new era of design at LazyPay. Onwards and upwards! 🚀
